Starskate Rules

  1. When skaters come on the ice, say hello to the coaches.  If you are late, skaters need to apologize to the coaches.
  2. 3. Skaters must wear gloves with fingers.  On extremely cold days, skaters may wear mittens over their gloves but they must take off their mittens for lessons.
  4. Skaters cannot wear touques.  If their ears are cold, skaters can wear headbands.
  5. If skaters are cold on the ice, they need to skate faster.
  6. Go to the bathroom before skating starts and limit bathroom visits during practices.
  7. Water bottles must be placed in the designated area (at the end of the players' boxes closest to the Zamboni) while on the ice.  Skaters can only have a drink after completing their program.
  8. Skaters cannot sit on the bench during practices.  If skaters need to tie their skates, they must do it on the ice.
  9. Test Days: Wear a plain dress and clean tights with your hair done for Dance and Skills tests.  For Freeskate tests, wear your Freeskate dress with clean tights and do your hair as you would for your Freeskate program.
  10. Phones are not allowed by the ice.
  11. Dressing rooms are not secure, SVSC advises skaters with phones to put their phone in their skating bag and bring it to the ice.  Phones are not allowed out by the ice.
  12. Skaters cannot request music from the music player.  Skaters must ask their coach for music requests.
  13. Skaters cannot wave off music programs.  Skaters must ask their coach if they want a particular program played or if they do not want music played.
  14. Skaters need to inform their coach at least 24 hours in advance of their planned absences from practices by emailing snowvalleyskatingclubcoaches@gmail.com in order to avoid being billed for coaching lessons.  If you need to miss practice at short notice, please text all the Starskate coaches.
  15. Rule of 2: Two screened adults must be present at every skating practice for the safety of skaters and coaches.  The two adults can be any combination of coaches, music players or adult skaters.
  16. Skaters should never be standing still on the ice unless they are listening to or talking with the coach.  Use the fast track to think and the middle of the ice to perform.
  17. When you purchase skaters from a specialty skate shop, ask how the laces should be tied and take a video of the lace tying process.
